Nigerian police arrest 2 suspected killers of police corporal

Nigerian police have arrested two gunmen in connection with the alleged killing of a local police corporal in the southwestern state of Ondo early this month.

"We arrested some suspects in connection with the death of one of our officers. They were arrested for unlawful possession of ammunition and firearms but an investigation is ongoing," said a divisional police head on Tuesday.

The senior police officer added, "in fact, the rifle that resembles that of the dead officer was found on one of the suspects and they have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation."

The deceased police corporal, identified as Michael Olujimi, was killed while on his way to work on Feb. 5 in the town of Okitipupa in Ondo State.

His killers also allegedly took away his service rifle.

His death had sparked an outrage in Okitipupa, a town where armed bandits and kidnappers are on the prowl.

Local police said they are working with local residents to get adequate information on how to track down more criminals the town and its environs. Endit
