Profile: French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve

French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve is paying an official visit to China on Feb. 21-23. The following is a brief introduction of Cazeneuve.

Cazeneuve was born on June 2, 1963 in the city of Senlis, Oise department, northern France. After graduating from the Institute of Political Studies in Bordeaux, Cazeneuve served as a deputy of the National Assembly from 1997 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2012.

Cazeneuve also worked as a judge for France's High Court of Justice and the Court of Justice of the Republic from 1997 to 2002, when he served as a deputy of the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, he was the mayor of Cherbourg-Octeville in the Lower Normandy region from 2001 to 2012.

Cazeneuve served as the Minister of State for European Affairs from 2012 to 2013, the Minister of State for the Budget from 2013 to 2014, and as Interior Minister from 2014 to 2016.

He was appointed Prime Minister on Dec. 6, 2016.
