ID documents issued by eastern Ukraine authorities not valid for Belarus: border official

Xinhua, February 21, 2017 Adjust font size:

Entry into Belarus with identification documents issued by eastern Ukrainian authorities is impossible, a border guard official said Monday.

Anton Bychkovsky, an official of Belarus' State Border Guard Committee, said Russian President Vladimir Putin's order would not change the policy of the Belarusian border guard agency anyway.

"If we see such a person on our border, this person will not be allowed to cross the border if he has no documents giving him the right to cross the state border of the Republic of Belarus," Bychkovsky told Belarusian reporters.

Putin's executive order issued on Saturday allowed bearers of ID documents issued by the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics to enter Russia visa-free. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Putin's decree is in violation of international law. Endi
