The following are news items in South Africa's major news outlets on Monday:

-- Former Lesotho prime minister Tom Thabane has reportedly slammed the Southern African Development Community (SADC) of neglecting him and the other two opposition leaders who returned home from exile in South Africa.

Thabane said on Sunday the regional bloc "should not be deceived" into thinking their security was guaranteed.(News24).

-- The chief parliamentary whip of South Africa's ruling African National Congress threw his support behind Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa as the party's next leader and said the ANC is in danger of losing national power in two years.

While the ANC has told its members not to publicly discuss the race to succeed President Jacob Zuma as party leader, Jackson Mthembu said Sunday that Ramaphosa's position as deputy means he must become its next president.(Fin24).

-- Foreign nationals affected by public violence in Pretoria West say the South African government is not doing enough to protect them. They say they are living in fear after their businesses were robbed and destroyed.
