Tokyo stocks retreat in morning as exporters drop on yen's rise

Xinhua, February 16, 2017 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks lost ground Thursday morning as initial optimism from solid U.S. economic data was erased by a firm yen against the U.S. dollar impacting export-linked issues, which dragged down the broader market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 119.62 points, or 0.62 percent, from Wednesday to 19,318.36.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 6.07 points, or 0.39 percent, to 1,547.62.

Issues that comprised notable decliners by the morning break included transportation equipment, precision instrument and air transportation-linked stocks. Endit
