Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Bonn, Germany on Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

CARACAS -- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Tuesday demanded a retraction from the U.S. government, after it imposed sanctions on his vice president for alleged ties to drug trafficking.
Maduro called on his Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez to summon the U.S. charge d'affairs in Venezuela to deliver a note of protest and demand "the accusation be retracted." (Venezuela-US-VP)

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Around 9,000 soldiers from the Brazilian army were deployed to Rio de Janeiro Tuesday ahead of a potential police strike, the Ministry of Defence announced.
Minister of Defence Raul Jungmann told a press conference that the soldiers will patrol Rio de Janeiro and the nearby cities of Niteroi and Sao Goncalo until Feb. 22, although their deployment could be extended until after Carnival. (Brazil-Police strike)

HOUSTON -- Storms with several tornadoes hit the greater Houston area in the U.S. state of Texas on Tuesday, killing one person.
The U.S. National Weather Service confirmed later Tuesday that at least six tornadoes touched down in the greater Houston area early Tuesday, causing damage in the cities such as Van Vleck, Missouri, Rosenberg and Stafford. (U.S.-Storm)

LONDON -- Inflation in Britain has reached a record high of 1.8 percent since 2014 in January, on the rising of fuel price, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) announced Tuesday.
The latest ONS data showed that annual level of inflation as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) hit 1.8 percent last month, compared to 1.6 percent in December, 2016, making the first month of this year the fourth consecutive month that the CPI rate has risen. (Britain-Inflation) Endi
