Beijing edges bellwether but out top eight

Although Beijing defeated the league leader Shanghai 107-104 on Wednesday, the powerhouse of CBA still ranked 9th in the standings.

Its old rival Sichuan outscored Shandong 97-90, getting the upper hand in the competition for the playoffs tickets.

In the season, Shanghai never lost any match when the team played at home, but Beijing who had earned three CBA titles terminated thw record.

Stephon Marbury led Beijing with 34 points and his three pointer in the last minute of the game brought the key victory to his team.

In Shanghai side, fromer NBA player Jimmer Fredette contributed 34 points too, plus three assists and four rebounds. Shanghai dropped to the second place after the loss, because the former runner-up Xinjiang beat Bayi 100-83 in the round.

CBA defending champion Sichuan edged Shandong in a key game, climbing up to the 7th place. But both teams haven't earned the qualifications for the playoffs yet. Jiangsu and Beijing will compete with them in the last two rounds.
