Tokyo shares edge down on gains lock-in

Tokyo shares edged down on Tuesday morning as investors tried to lock in previous gains from strong U.S. stocks overnight.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 31.33 points, or 0.16 percent, from Monday to 19,427.82.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 1.91 points, or 0.12 percent, to 1,552.29.

Decliners were led by precision instrument, oil and coal product, and food issues. Endit
