PSG's top scorer Cavani expects a perfect 'birthday gift' from defeating Barca

Xinhua, February 13, 2017 Adjust font size:

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani expected a good result against Barcelona in UEFA Champions League last 16 to be his 30-year-old birthday gift on pre-match conference here on Monday.

"The best birthday gift I can expect is a good result for the team. Winning on my birthday, that would be perfect!" said the Uruguayan striker, who turns 30 on the matchday against Barca at the Parc des Princes.

Cavani, who has tallied 25 league goals so far for PSG, has emphasized his teammates' big role in his prolific perfromance on the pitch.

"My goals are attributed to the work of my teammates. If we win, we win together. We need to keep working to make ourselves stronger," commented the Ligue 1 top scorer.

"To win is my only target whenever I walk onto the pitch. Barca are a very strong side for us, and we need to be focused to get closer to the victory," he added.

PSG's head coach Unai Emery, who has faced up Barcelona 23 times in his coaching career but won just once, also expected to improve his personal record against the La Liga giants.

10 wins and one draw in their last 11 games in all competitions, PSG may give Emery every reason for his confidence in a home win.

"This is a good opportunity for me," Emery told reporters, "Playing against the best teams in Europe and the world, we need to show our confidence in ourselves." Endit
