Polish PM continues staying in hospital for observation: government spokesman

Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo, who was injured in a car accident last week, will recover fast but still will remain in hospital for the next few days for observation, government spokesperson Rafal Bochenek said on Monday.

Bochenek said Szydlo required no non-standard procedures or a surgery, her condition was stable and the nature of injuries was a sign that she will soon recover.

Szydlo will stay in hospital for a few days, and the Tuesday meeting of the government will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Glinski, the spokesman said.

On Sunday, Szydlo said in a statement that she was feeling perfectly fine and would leave the hospital anytime if it was her to make the decision. She also expressed her concern regarding her chief of security, who had been more seriously injured in the crash.

On Friday night, Szydlo was taken to the Military Institute of Medicine in Warsaw, following the car accident which took place in Oswiecim, southern Poland, when her car collided with a Fiat Seicento.

She underwent a routine medical checkup, according to a government spokesman, and had not suffered any serious harm. Endit
