A head-on collision between two buses in Bangladesh's Narsingdi district on Sunday left at least 11 people dead and three others injured, the district's police chief Amena Begum said.
"Eleven passengers, including two children and four women, were killed on the spot in the head-on collision between the buses," she told Xinhua.
The road accident which occurred at around 9:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) also left three passengers of both the buses critically injured, she added.
All the three injured in the crash were rushed to a local hospital, she said adding the mini bus was trying to overtake a vehicle when it collided head on with a regular route bus coming in the opposite direction.
Bangladesh has one of the highest fatality rates for road accidents in the world due mainly to shoddy highways, poorly maintained vehicles, violation of traffic rules by inept drivers and lack of monitoring of the traffic department.
In a disastrous road accident Friday night, at least 13 people were killed and dozens of others injured in a fiery crash between a bus and a pickup truck, carrying gas cylinders, in Bangladesh's central Faridpur district. Endit
