Colombian forward Miguel Borja was received euphorically by hundreds of fans of Palmeiras when he arrived at Sao Paulo International Airport on Saturday.
While the player, Palmerias' most expensive transfer this season, was originally meant to exit the terminal through a private door, the airport management finally allowed him to disembark with other passengers so he could greet the crowd awaiting him.
A video posted by Palmeiras on Twitter showed a large crowd of fans, banging samba drums and singing as they lifted Borja on their shoulders to the bus that took him to the Palmeiras club ground.
The former player of Atletico Nacional in Colombia underwent a medical check-up, received his new team shirt, and visited the facilities of Palmeiras, where he has signed a five-year contract.
Sports paper, Globo Esporte, quoted Palmeiras' director of football Alexandre Mattos, as saying that Borja was "a gift" to the fans.
Social media were also filled with messages of hope at Borja's arrival, as fans expected him to recreate his form in Colombia, where he scored 39 goals last season.
The date of his official presentation to the fans or his first match have not been confirmed. However, given the fanatic reception that awaited him, Borja will need to quickly show why Palmeiras spent 10.5 million U.S dollars to bring him over to Brazil. Enditem
