Britain, Norway affirm "unique" energy relationship

Xinhua, February 11, 2017 Adjust font size:

Britain and Norway said Friday the two countries shared a "unique" energy relationship that was beneficial for both sides and it was important to maintain the momentum.

Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy Terje Soviknes and Britain's Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Minister for Industry and Energy Jesse Norman issued a joint statement after their meeting at the Oslo Energy Forum on Friday.

"Norway and the United Kingdom share a unique relationship on energy, developed from a long history of close working and innovation across the North Sea," the statement said.

"Norway is the UK's most important energy supplier, particularly as an external supplier of gas. British interest in Norwegian gas is set to grow as the UK looks to phase out power generation from unabated coal in the transition to a lower carbon energy mix," it said.

The joint statement also said that electricity interconnection represented an additional feature in the energy partnership of the two countries.

"A stable and market-based framework for the inter-connector development is important to both countries," it said. Endit
