Tokyo shares rally in morning in expectation of Trump's tax reform plan

Tokyo shares rallied Friday morning with market confidence boosted after U.S. President Donald Trump said he would announce a "phenomenal" tax plan in the coming weeks.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 446.31 points, or 2.36 percent, from Thursday to 19,353.98.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 31.54 points, or 2.08 percent, to 1,545.09.

Gainers were led by tire, mining and transportation equipment issues. Endit
