NATO deputy chief reaffirms support for Ukraine

NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller on Thursday has reaffirmed the alliance's support for Ukraine, urging Kiev to push forward the anti-corruption and other reforms, the press service of the Ukrainian government said in a statement on Thursday.

"I encourage Ukraine to continue to press ahead with such reforms. NATO will continue to provide political and practical support to Ukraine," Gottemoeller was quoted as saying during her meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman in Brussels.

NATO's assistance includes a program to enhance Ukraine's air security, a program on medical rehabilitation of Ukrainian army servicemen, defense lessons for the military personnel and anti-corruption trainings for the officials of the East European country, Gottemoeller said.

For his part, Groysman has expressed his gratitude to the alliance for the support, saying it is very important for Kiev to continue reforms.

"We have a very precise plan of action which will allow us to implement reforms and they will be on the NATO standards," Groysman said.

Ukraine and NATO established the partnership in 1991, shortly after Kiev gained its independence from the former Soviet Union. Ukraine closely cooperates with the alliance and actively participates in NATO's Partnership for Peace Program. Endit
