report published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) about mis-invoicing in South Africa's gold industry contained serious methodological errors and is now being challenged in a new report.

In the report, published in July last year, UNCTAD researchers alleged that there had been "massive export under-invoicing" in South Africa's gold industry and that "virtually all gold exported by South Africa left the country unreported." (Fin24)

--Civil group Save South Africa's "real State of the Nation Address" was an insult to President Jacob Zuma, a former KwaZulu-Natal African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) leader said on Wednesday.

"These desperate moves by so-called 'Save South Africa', led by Sipho Pityana, are just a reckless and dangerous move that could provoke citizens of this country to defend the sovereignty of the republic," Sifiso Sonjica said. Sonjica came to Zuma's defence shortly after Pityana finished addressing a gathering at St George's Cathedral in Cape Town on Wednesday. Zuma will deliver his SONA in Parliament later this week. --Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Wednesday a minimum wage which the government plans to introduce is not intended to be a living wage.

He said a minimum wage of R20 an hour is expected to be implemented by May next year. (Eyewitness News) Endit
