Bulgaria's industrial production index rises in December

Bulgaria's Industrial Production Index (IPI) in December 2016 rose by 6.9 percent year-on-year, and by 2.1 percent compared with November, the country's National Statistical Institute (NSI) said Wednesday.

Preliminary NSI data showed that on an annual basis, December's IPI increased in the manufacturing by 9.6 percent and in the mining and quarrying industry by 2.5 percent, while in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply a decrease by 0.3 percent was seen.

In the manufacturing, significant year-on-year increases were recorded in fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, with 34.5 percent, basic metals 26.4 percent, and computer, electronic and optical products 20.3 percent, the NSI said.

Meanwhile, the highest decreases were registered in the manufacture of wood and timber products, except furniture, with 16.7 percent, other transport equipment 15.9 percent, and tobacco products 12.7 percent.

On a monthly basis, the IPI in December 2016 increased in manufacturing by 3.9 percent and in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply by 1.3 percent, while in the mining and quarrying industry it decreased by 1.4 percent, the NSI said. Endit
