32 trafficked Vietnamese women rescued by SW China police

Xinhua, February 8, 2017 Adjust font size:

Chinese police have rescued 32 women trafficked from Vietnam and dismantled a human trafficking ring, police in southwest China's Yunnan Province announced Wednesday.

Altogether 75 suspects have been caught, the rail police of the provincial capital Kunming said.

On Sept. 2, 2015, the local rail police found a woman who was unable to speak Chinese, and the man with her was acting suspicious.

It was later revealed that the woman was Vietnamese and she had been sold as a bride for 80,000 yuan (11,620 U.S. dollars) to a man in Yao Autonomous County of Hekou.

Joint investigation by police across seven provinces showed that a gang member, who has only been identified by his surname Hua and was based in Vietnam, had been trafficking Vietnamese women to China with another suspect, also only identified by his surname, Li, who was based in China. The women were sold across the country through several middlemen.

The investigation continues. Endi
