Cambodia's Boeungket Angkor advances to group stage in AFC Cup 2017

Xinhua, February 7, 2017 Adjust font size:

Beoungket Angkor FC of Cambodia secured a berth in the AFC Cup Group Stage after a 1-0 play-off second leg win over Lao Toyota FC in Lao capital Vientiane on Tuesday.

The lone goal by Japanese midfielder Tomoki Muramatsu of Boeungket Angkor a minute before half-time was enough to send the Cambodian club to the group stage of the tournament after both sides drew 1-1 in their first-leg tie.

It is the Cambodian club's second appearance in a continental tournament after they played in the AFC President's Cup in 2013.

Meanwhile, Lao Toyota earned a berth in the 2017 AFC Cup play-offs after a runner-up finish in the 2016 Lao Premier League. The Lao club have appeared in the group stage in the past two seasons and last year had a 2-1 home win over eventual runners-up JSW Bengaluru FC, according to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
