Canada took the title of women's curling at the 28th Winter Universiade by beating Russia 8-3 here on Tuesday.

Canada made an early advantage 4-0 after three ends. The Russian team tried to cut the deficit and scored two points in the seventh end, but only saw Canadian cruising to the final win with a point in the eighth end and another two in the ninth.

"The main thing was to stick to the chosen tactics for each individual game for us. I hope that someone from my players will be able to get into the national team of Canada and to take part in next year's Olympic Games in South Korea," said Canada coach Harry Coder.

Sweden ranked third of the tournament by beating Switzerland 6-3 in the bronze-medal playoff on Monday. Endit
