China claims men's relay title in Winter Universiade short track

The Chinese men's team claimed the gold medal of the 5,000m relay short track speed skating here on Tuesday at the 28th Universiade, while the women's team took a silver medal.

China clocked seven minutes 4.443 seconds to stand on the top podium, Russia finished second with 7:04.551 and Kazakhstan third at 7:13.799.

South Korea, Universiade record holder and a strong competitor of the race, was penalized without any results.

Earlier on Tuesday, the South Korea team led all the time and won the women's 3,000m relay with a time of 4:13.630. China took the silver medal in 4:13.808. Kazakhstan was third in 4:18.369.

In the women's 1,000m, South Korean Son Hakyung pocketed her third gold medal of the Universiade. She beat China's Xu Aili in the final lap to claim the title 1:33.858. Xu finished second with 1:34.013 and Nakano Ayame of Japan third in 1:36.248. Endit
