World's longest flight lands in New Zealand

Xinhua, February 6, 2017 Adjust font size:

The world's longest non-stop commercial flight landed in Auckland, New Zealand on Monday, as Qatar Airways's flight QR920 arrived at the Auckland Airport after leaving Doha, the capital of Qatar.

The long-range Boeing 777 covered a distance of 9,032 miles (14,535 km), spanning 10 times zones during the marathon flight.

"We've officially landed in Auckland," the airline tweeted on arrival, several minutes earlier than scheduled.

The inaugural flight has received a traditional water canon welcome at the destination airport.

The flight eclipses what is now the longest duration flight, Emirates airline's Dubai-Auckland service, with about 300 km longer than that of the latter. Endi
