Hong Kong players shine in Davis Cup Asia-Oceania zone round one

Players from China's Hong Kong performed well here in group two of the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania zone first round.

Hong Kong player Karan Rastogi had a lopsided 6-7, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Vietnamese youngster Nguyen Hoang Thien on Sunday.

His compatriot Wong Hong Kit had a tougher go of it, losing to Vietnamese player Ly Hoang Nam 3-6, 6-7, 4-6.

Earlier, in a men's doubles match, Hong Kong players Karan Rastogi and Wong Chun Hun beat Vietnamese duo Ly Hoang Nam and Nguyen Hoang Thien 4-1. In men's singles action, Wong Hong Kit defeated Nguyen Hoang Thien 3-2.

The Vietnamese team consists of Ly Hoang Nam, Nguyen Hoang Thien, national champion Pham Minh Tuan and young star Nguyen Dac Tien. The Hong Kong squad includes Wong Hong Kit, Tang Anthony Jackie, Wong Chun Hun and Karan Rastogi.

Davis Cup group two is comprised of Pakistan, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, China's Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran and Kuwait.

In the Asia/Oceania zone, there are four different tiers, called groups, in which teams compete against each other in order to advance to the upper tier. Endit
