Iran lifts ban on U.S. wrestlers

Xinhua, February 5, 2017 Adjust font size:

Iran has lifted a ban on U.S. wrestlers, allowing them to take part in the Freestyle World Cup later this month in the Iranian city of Kermanshah.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Sunday that it would grant visas to the U.S. wrestlers ahead of the Feb. 17-18 wrestling event.

Iran had on Friday said it would deny the American team visas, in response to Washington's controversial travel ban against citizens from seven Mulim-majority countries, including Iran, from entering the United States.

On Saturday, Iran Wrestling Federation urged the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to coordinate visa issuance for the U.S. wrestling squad. Endit
