Russia's Kachurkina claims third medal in Universiade

Russia's Alexandra Kachurkina claimed the women's 1000-meter speed skating title at the 28th Winter Universiade here on Saturday, lifting her medal haul to three at the tournament.

Under snowing conditions, Kachurkina, who won the 1,500m race and came third in the 500m race earlier, clocked the fastest time in the 1000m in one minute 19.10 second, followed by Kim Hyunyung of South Korea with a time of 1:19.19. Aidova Yekaterina of Kazakhstan ranked third in 1:19.53.

Kachurkina also set a new record at the world famouse Medeu High Mountain Ice Rink.

"I have grown tired over the past several days," said Kachurkina, "It was difficult to skate in such weather. I am grateful to the organizers who shoveled off snow while we ran. I am happy that I was able to set the rink record." Endit
