A poll conducted by German institute Infratest Dimap by late January showed that 50 percent of voters would support Martin Schulz, the Chancellor candidate of Social Democratic Party of Germany and former President of the European Parliament, while only 34 percent would be in favor of the incumbent Chancellor Angela Merkel of Christian Democratic Union of Germany.

Germany's Environment Ministry has planned to construct overhead wires for trolley trucks above two sections of expressway in the states of Hessen and Schleswig Holstein with 40 million euros investment. The ministry's secretary said the goal is to make the freight transports environmentally-friendly.

Public prosecutor's office in the German state of Hessen has investigated Carsten Kengeter, the chief executive of Deutsche Boerse, for suspicion of internal transaction.
