The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Friday.
--Zambia's revenue collection agency has introduced a self-certification electronic system for exporters to the European Union (EU) market.
The new program known as Registered Exports (REX), being undertaken in collation with the EU, will be piloted for one year in two border entries before being extended to other parts of the country.
The new system will also help provide easy traceability of exporters and also broaden their market. (Zambia Daily Mail)
--Zambian President Edgar Lungu said he will disown any permanent secretary or senior technocrat flouting government procedures under the pretext of carrying out his orders.
Lungu said he was aware that some permanent secretaries and directors have done wrong things out of intimidation by people claiming to have been sent by him. (Times of Zambia)
--Only 10 percent of Zambia's 190,000 maize farming hectares were attacked by army worms although the pest has now been contained, a senior government official said.
Ministry of Agriculture director Peter Lungu said most of the maize fields that were affected had recovered from the attack, adding that the country expects a good harvest if the rains continue. (Daily Nation)
--A court in southern Zambia has jailed seven Zimbabweans to four months in jail with hard labor for illegal entry.
The seven were jailed after pleading guilty to the charge when they appeared before a court. They were arrested between January 23 and 25. (The Mast) Endit
