The following are news highlights in major Kenyan media outlets on Thursday.
-- President Uhuru Kenyatta clashed with Opposition leaders on Wednesday over claims of fraud in the ongoing voter registration. Kenyatta accused the Opposition of spreading propaganda to tarnish the government's development record in the hope of winning the August election. (Daily Nation)
-- The over 600,000 workers who make up Kenya's public sector are set to enjoy a salary increase from July. Under a new pay structure for the civil service, the salaries commission has recommended a pay rise, with the least paid worker set to earn some 114 U.S. dollars and the highest up to 4,800 dollars a month.
-- U.S. President Donald Trump's protectionist economic policies pose the biggest risk to Kenya's economy this year, Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge said Wednesday.
He noted Kenya's economy was facing more serious threats externally than locally, adding that the country would struggle to cover the export hole should the Trump administration roll back the African Growth Opportunities Act. (Business Daily)
