Galatasaray's Altintop joins Darmstadt

Darmstadt have wrapped up the transfer of Hamit Altintop from Turkish outfit Galatasaray, both sides announced on Tuesday.

Bottom-dwelling Darmstadt reinforced their squad with the signing of veteran midfielder Altintop, who penned a deal until the end of the season.

"It is certainly something special that such a player, with such a vita and experience joins Darmstadt," Darmstadt head coach Torsten Frings told the club's official homepage.

The Turkey international knows the German Bundesliga very well as he played for Schalke and Bayern Munich before joining Real Madrid in 2011. Altintop played since 2012 for Galatasaray where he provided one goal in 61 appearances.

"In the past years, the team has already proven what it is capable of. We have now 16 games ahead of us in which we will try everything," Altintop said.
