Tokyo stocks lose ground after winning streak on profit taking

Tokyo stocks closed down Monday, marking the first closing low in four days, as investors opted to lock in profits following the market's recent run of gains.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 98.55 points, or 0.51 percent, from Friday to end the day at 19,368.85.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 5.48 points, or 0.35 percent, to close at 1,543.77.

Notable issues that lost ground by the close of play comprised bank, insurance, and electric power and gas-linked stocks.

The day's turnover was 1,924 billion yen (16.80 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
