5 troopers missing after snow track caves in near LoC in Kashmir

Xinhua, January 28, 2017 Adjust font size:

Five troopers went missing Saturday after a snowbound track they were walking on caved in near Line of Control (LoC) dividing Kashmir, army officials said.

The troopers were part of a routine patrol in Machil sector of frontier Kupwara district, about 165 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The search for the troopers has been going on in full swing, Indian army spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia told Xinhua.

On Wednesday, 15 troopers were killed after being hit by avalanches at three different places in Gurez and Sonamarg.

It took rescue teams two days to retrieve their bodies from the snow mounds in Gurez. Endit
