Ukraine announces 20-fold increase in farming subsidies for 2017

Xinhua, January 28, 2017 Adjust font size:

The Ukrainian government has decided on a twenty-fold increase in farming subsidies this year to about 200 million U.S. dollars, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement Friday.

"The aid is increasing because agricultural production is on the rise," Agriculture Minister Taras Kutovyi said.

The major share will be directed to such farming sectors as livestock production and horticulture, which are not fully developed, he said.

In addition, part of the funds will be used to support the agricultural machinery manufacturing sector with the mid-term goal of making Ukraine-made machinery affordable for small farmers.

Ukraine's development strategy in the next five years foresees allotting one percent of the state income from agriculture production to supporting farmers. Endi
