International organization World Vision, along with community and local authority, on Thursday launched a new project aimed at ending violence against children in northern Cambodia's Preah Vihear province.
The four-year project, with the budget of 1.8 million U.S. dollars, would be carrying out in six districts in the province and some 15,000 children stood to directly benefit from it, according to its press release.
In Cambodia, significant numbers of children are vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, neglect, and other forms of violence.
According to a survey by the Ministry of Women Affairs, more than 50 percent of children have experienced physical abuse and over three quarters of Cambodian children reported more than one incident of physical violence, emotional violence or sexual abuse before the age 18.
Project manager Leang On Pong said World Vision was delighted to work together with communities and local authorities on the project that aimed at ending violence against children.
"It is important that these root causes of these issues are tackled through a coordinated and collective manner," he said.
He added that the project would apply evidence-based good practice models to promote change in attitudes that perpetuate violence against children. Endit
