The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Tuesday:

-- The Social Justice Coalition (SJC) on Monday said that the police minister and several police commissioners were in contempt of court for failing to file responding papers in a court case it brought against them.

But in a written response to News24, national South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Sally de Beer said that police were attending to the necessary legal processes. (News24).

-- According to South African Tourism's Strategic Research Unit, arrivals to South Africa from China (including Hong Kong) increased by 56 percent for the period January to October when comparing 2015 and 2016.(Fin24).

-- Just three months into the job and yet to deliver her first complete report, Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane is under increasing scrutiny.

Opposition parties voiced their concerns about Mkhwebane after Economic Freedom Fighters' leader Julius Malema accused her of being a spy and a "Gupta puppet" on Monday.

Malema claimed that Mkhwebane was becoming a "state protector" instead of a Public Protector, and that it had been a mistake to support her through her nomination last year.
