Indonesia eyes India to further boost tourism sector

Indonesia is eying potentialities that can be tapped on from India and South Asian markets to further boost its tourism sector by taking part in Indian and regional landmark travel expos scheduled next month.
The expos comprised of India's Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) slated for Feb. 21 to 23 in Bombay Exhibition Center, Mumbai, and regional tourism event of 2017 South Asia Tourism and Travel Expo (SATTE) in Pragati, New Delhi.
The regional tourism expo of SATTE is a popular Business to Business event that meets buyers and sellers and attracts 350,000 from 40 countries.
Some 750 exhibitors were expected to sell their tour packages to buyers attending the event.
"Expand the selling, strengthen the B to B and use multi sales platform by embracing the largest online trading agent in that country, connect it with our ITX," Indonesia's Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said in a statement released on Tuesday.
The ministry set a target to get 1,300 Indian and South Asian visitors from the events.
Number of Indian visitors grew 23 percent to 293,415 ones in 2015 from 2014.
The figure was significantly increased to 336,575 ones in the first nine months last year, or 29.35 percent higher compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the data released by the ministry.
The figure makes India among top 10 countries contributed the most visitors in Indonesia.
"We would consistently engage our best efforts to tap more potentialities from Indian market," Vincensius Jemadu, Deputy Minister Assistant for Asia Pacific Market Development at the ministry said.
Indonesia has set target to welcome 15 million foreign visitors with 12.2 billion U.S. dollars of earnings expected to be gained from tourism sector this year.
Southeast Asia's largest economy has declared the sector as its core business, expecting to see 20 million foreign visitors and more than 24 billion U.S. dollars of earnings by 2019. Endit
