Large businesses in Albania to pay higher energy supply fees

Xinhua, January 24, 2017 Adjust font size:

The price of electric energy supply is expected to increase for some large and medium-sized businesses operating in Albania, local media said Monday.

Around 80 large businesses using the 35 kilovolt (kV) network will pay new tariffs which are expected to grow by 16 percent, media reports said, citing sources from the energy regulation authority.

These charges will be for the use of the network as an extra charge over the current price of power supply.

The same sources said that this category of business had been included in the process of the liberalization of the market, and from Feb. 1 they must find secure power supply in the free energy market.

These businesses will face a minimum charge of 7.3 lek (0.057 U.S. dollar) per kilowatt hour (kWh) and as of February 2017, they will be charged an extra 1.5 lek per kWh for access, experts of the energy regulatory body explained Monday.

The increase of the monthly cost will also apply for 6,200 other businesses that are supplied by the 20 kV network. Starting from the middle of 2017, they will also pay an extra 3.9 lek as an access fee, they said. (1 U.S. dollar=127 Albanian lek) Endit
