Xinhua, January 24, 2017 Adjust font size:

Around 37 percent of citizens in Albania who have a job declare their incomes partially or not at all, thus working under the table, a survey carried out by the Albanian Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) showed Monday.

According to this survey, around 20 percent of employees have declared that they have a work contract but their salary is higher than what is officially declared.

It showed that lower the level of education is, the less likely the employee will be protected by a work contract.

Only 21 percent of workers with low education have work contracts, according to survey.

Meanwhile, the level of informality is higher among those who have two jobs as 56 percent of employees with a second job, including self-employment, do not have a work contract.

Referring to the official statistics, the level of unemployment in Albania in 2016 was 16.9 percent while undeclared work continues to be one of the main manifestations of the informal economy. Endit
