China's southwestern municipality of Chongqing maintained rapid economic growth, posting 10.7 percent growth of GDP in 2016, the local statistics bureau announced Friday.

It outpaced the country's 6.7 percent GDP growth in 2016.

Chongqing's GDP reached 1.76 trillion yuan (256 billion U.S. dollars) in 2016, according to the bureau.
