Tokyo shares close higher ahead of Trump's inauguration

Tokyo shares closed higher Friday on hopes for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's fiscal stimulus plans as he is to take office later in the day.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 65.66 points, or 0.34 percent, from Thursday at 19,137.91.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 5.31 points, or 0.35 percent, higher at 1,533.46.
Gainers were led by insurance, oil and coal product, and machinery issues.
The day's turnover was about 2,064.9 billion yen (around 18 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
