Tokyo shares edge up in morning on Chinese GDP data

Tokyo shares gained ground Friday morning on upbeat Chinese economic growth data for the fourth quarter of 2016.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 19.59 points, or 0.10 percent, from Thursday to 19,091.84.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 2.02 points, or 0.13 percent, to 1,530.17.

Gainers were led by insurance, mining, and oil and coal product issues. Endit
