Tokyo shares end higher by break on soft yen

Xinhua, January 19, 2017 Adjust font size:

Tokyo shares closed the morning session higher on Thursday with the Nikkei index rebounding to above the 19,000 level, as export-related stocks were boosted by yen's depreciation against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 176.93 points, or 0.94 percent, from Wednesday to 19,071.30.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 13.13 points, or 0.87 percent, to 1,526.99.

Gainers were led by bank, insurance and marine transportation issues. Endit
