Singapore air force conducts Flaming Arrow Challenge 2017 to sharpen defense capabilities

Xinhua, January 18, 2017 Adjust font size:

The Singapore Air Force (RSAF) "sharpened its air defense capabilities and honed the competency of its air defense operations" during the Flaming Arrow Challenge 2017 (FAC17), said the Ministry of Defense in a statement on Wednesday.

The FAC17, held from January 9 to 20, is one of the seven RSAF Command Challenges organized annually by the RSAF's Operational Commands.

It serves as an instrumental platform for airmen and women from the RSAF's Ground-Based Air Defense (GBAD) system to combat in a competition of operational capabilities and logistical expertise, which helps to hone their employment tactics and skills and raise the RSAF's operational standards, according to the statement.

Senior Minister of State for Defense and Foreign Affairs Mohamad Maliki bin Osman visited the site and was briefed on how the RSAF conducts its air defense operations.

The minister also experienced how helicopters execute flight maneuvers to evade missiles from a RSAF's Super Puma helicopter. Enditem
