China ranks first among foreign countries providing training programs to Myanmar in terms of the number of short-term training programs and trainees, the official newspaper Global New Light of Myanmar reported Wednesday.

China's Ministry of Commerce provides training programs to Myanmar in such fields as education, culture, healthcare, economy, trade, finance, administration, industry, agriculture, fishery, forestry, communication, aviation, media, police, law, environmental conservation, city management, Chinese language, disaster prevention and management.

The Chinese embassy has also helped send 17 Myanmar teachers and officials from vocation schools to take part in training programs in China in 2016, the report said.

The training programs are expected to assist Myanmar in capacity building, a Chinese embassy official was quoted as saying.

Among all the trainees received by the Chinese ministry, the number of trainees from Myanmar ranks fourth in Asia and eighth worldwide in 2016, the report said. Endit
