Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas said Tuesday that the government wanted to improve cooperation between Estonian researchers and businesses to help develop the country's economy.

Speaking at the Estonian parliament, Ratas stressed the importance of science contributions to solving societal problems through its achievements.

Prominent viewpoints of scientists could help the government take wise decisions concerning the state, such as the construction of Rail Baltic, solving integration problems and public health policies, he said.

Improving the cooperation between universities, other research organizations and entrepreneurs is a priority for the new government, Ratas said.

Estonia aims to spend 3 percent of its gross domestic product on research and development by 2020, he added. Endit
