Policy-making panel to be set up for Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor projects

Xinhua, January 17, 2017 Adjust font size:

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Tuesday he will soon set up a policy-making committee for Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor(EEC) projects.

Prayut said he will exercise his absolute power under Article 44 of an interim constitution to set up the policy-making committee as well as a working committee to streamline and promote the EEC development projects.

The EEC projects, located in the country's eastern seaboard areas, including Chachoengsao, Chon Buri and Rayong provinces, call for the construction and expansion of logistic and transport systems primarily designed to support export-bound manufacturing industry and export industry via Laem Chabang deep-water port and U-tapao airport.

Prayut said that the existing infrastructure in those areas was yet to be developed and expanded to better serve the EEC projects, in which foreign investors will certainly be tempted to invest.

The sought-after foreign ventures in the EEC projects could probably materialize as soon as within this year, if those committees managed to have them fruitfully implemented, he said. Endit
