Li Junfeng, director of China's National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation, was awarded here on Monday the Zayed World Future Energy Prize in the category of "lifetime achievement."

The 500,000 U.S. dollar prize was presented during the 10th edition of the annual World Future Energy Summit which started earlier Monday, in recognition of Li's role in raising environmental awareness in China and in promoting renewable energy, green and clean technology across all industries in the country and beyond for over three decades.

Li, who could not travel to Abu Dhabi due to professional obligations in Beijing, thanked the UAE leadership through a video link and vowed to further the efforts in increasing the share of green energy globally.

Li's wife, Dong Luying, received the award on his behalf.

The Zayed World Future Energy Prize, issued in five categories, is named after the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, the founder and first president of the UAE.

The other four categories of the award, which has been issued annually since 2009, are large corporation, small and medium enterprise, non-profit organization, and global high schools. Endit
