The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Saturday.

-- The Zambian government has expressed satisfaction that no lives have been lost at night in road traffic accidents since the ban of the movement of public vehicles at night.

The government banned the movement of public of vehicles in November last year following an increase in road traffic accidents involving public buses. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- The United Nations children's agency has constructed 38 ventilated improved pit latrines at schools in eastern Zambia's Chadiza district to help improve the sanitation situation.

Chadiza District Commissioner George Phiri said hailed the UNICEF for construction of the pit latrines, saying this will enhance sanitation in the schools and enable female pupils to attend classes while on menstruation.(Times of Zambia)

-- The Zambian government has revealed that an outbreak of anthrax in the western part of the country has been contained.

Anthrax broke out in six districts of the province late last year. About 17 people were recently hospitalized after consuming meat from anthrax infected animals. (Daily Nation)

-- Residents of central Zambia's Kabwe town rioted on Friday after nursing at a clinic situated in one of the suburbs refused to attend to a pregnant woman, a move that resulted in the woman giving birth on the road side.

Eyewitnesses said the woman had reported to the clinic for delivery but was turned away after checkups, saying she was not yet due, adding that the woman delivered twins on the roadside. (The Mast) Endit
