The first electric buses will be used in Norway's capital city Oslo in November, newspaper Aftenposten reported Thursday.
Three bus lines will get two electric buses each for a test period of two years, according to the report. The cost of the test program is 43 million kroner (5.06 million U.S. dollars) and is supported by the Norwegian state-owned enterprise Enova.
Given their low level of emissions and noises, the buses will open up possibilities for, among others, indoor bus stops, according to Marius Gjerset, chief technology officer in environmental organization Zero.
According to the report, Oslo faces a number of challenges in using the electric buses, especially in winter, when low temperatures affect battery performance. Endit
