The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Sunday.

--Zambian President Edgar Lungu said the peaceful transition of power in Ghana was a testament that democracy in Africa is alive and well entrenched for other African countries to embrace.

Lungu said Ghana has demonstrated to the world that democracy in Africa is an inherent way of life worth emulating by other African countries.

Lungu said this in Ghana when he joined several African and world leaders and dignitaries who attended the inauguration ceremony of Nana Addo as Ghana's new president following elections held last month. (Times of Zambia)

--Anthrax has broken out in western Zambia, affecting five districts, forcing the government to restrict the movement of cattle in the province.

Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Michael Katambo, who confirmed the outbreak, said the restriction on the movement of cattle was meant to allow the ministry to conduct a vaccination exercise of all the livestock in the affected areas.

The livestock disease first broke out in November last year, he added. (Zambia Daily Mail)

--Zambia's biggest opposition party has warned of massive demonstrations if President Edgar Lungu goes ahead to seek reelection in 2021.

Lungu said last week that he was eligible to stand for elections in 2021 and that he will do so if the ruling party endorses his candidature, a move that has divided the country. The country allows for a two term limit in office for a president.

Stephen Katuka, the secretary-general of the United Party for National Development (UPND), said it was unconstitutional for Lungu to stand in 2021 and that his decision would be followed by massive demonstrations. (Daily Nation) Endit
