Nepalese tourism entrepreneurs have said that the "Nepal Tourism Promotion Year 2017" in China could be vital to revive Nepal's tourism industry battered by earthquake and Indian embargo of 2015-16.
China is the second largest tourist source market for Nepal after India. Tourists arrivals from China was increasing in leap and bound before the catastrophic earthquake in April 2015 but arrivals from the northern neighbor dropped sharply after the quake. (Nepal-Tourism)

GENEVA -- Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Syrian Issue Xie Xiaoyan on Friday said that both the UN and China welcome the upcoming Astana talks, with the hope that the talks will bear some fruit for the political process of the war-torn country.
Xie, now in Geneva in an effort to help working on a political solution to the Syrian crisis, said it is unclear which sides will take part in the talks scheduled on Jan. 23, but surely "Chinese representatives will be present." (Syria-China)

BANGKOK -- Thailand is staging a tourism festival with fascinating attractions in central Bangkok for Chinese New Year 2017, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) disclosed on Friday.
The festival to be held on Jan. 25 to 29 in Bangkok's Lumpini Park will showcase unique local experiences and attractions in all parts of the Kingdom. Activities will be organized with 10 zones that highlight Thainess from main regions of the country. (Thailand-Tourism-China)

NAIROBI -- Wang Lei, a Chinese doctor, is offering free medical aid to slum dwellers in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
